CBD, Hemp, THC... What Is It and Should I Give This To My Dog?
Today cannabis is becoming more and more popular across the world, especially with dogs! More and more we are seeing pet owners use some form of cannabis to help their pets. Daily anxiety, the arthritis that come with old age or even cancer have all been situations where pet owners looked to some form of Hemp or CDB to help. No your dog is not going to start smoking marijuana, we are talking about hemp and CBD. They type of hemp that has medicinal and therapeutic benefits is called cannabis.
What is the difference between Marijuana and Hemp?
Cannabis Sativa, this is the plant that both marijuana and hemp come from. There are over 60 chemicals in the cannabis plant, known as cannabinoids. With cannabinoids there are two types of cannabinoids (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). To keep it simple think of CBD’s as the therapeutic chemical and THC as the one that gets you high.
Marijuana’s THC level will be anywhere from 10-15%, Hemp has a THC content of .02 or less so at this amount there is NO intoxicating impact on dog or people.
So How Does CBD Work?
In each cannabis plant there are many chemicals, all mammals have cannabinoid receptors. These receptors are mostly in the central nervous system, peripheral organs, the brain and immune cells. These all make up what is known as the endocannabinoid system. There are numerous studies that show the cannabinoids can reduce inflammation, help with pain, tumors, seizures, spasms, skin conditions, appetite, aggression, anxiety and neurological disorders.
Will CBD Help My Dog?
Studies have proven that CBD Hemp can help with chronic and acute diseases in your dog. As mentioned above CBD can help with comprised immune systems, cancer, arthritis, stress and digestive issues. CBD is becoming more mainstream each day as it is now being used with sprains, ligament tears, broken bones and post op care (swelling and stiffness).
How Long Until I See Results
As with anything, each dog is different, some see changes within a few days and others within a few weeks. The most important thing is that it becomes part of the routine for your dog. Our recommendation is to give the daily dose recommended and give it at least a month to see a difference.
Will My Dog Be Safe?
Remember there is very little to no THC in the product and CBD and Hemp will not get you or your dog into a psychedelic state. Some side effects may include itchiness and an upset stomach, if you notice these you should stop giving your dog cannabis or any form of it.
